IC INFORMATION

Name: Oz Vessalius
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Age: 15
Gender: M
Species: Human/Chain
Appearance: Right Here
Canon point: Post Ch. 96

History: Here

The wiki only goes up to a certain point so what occurs after that point in the link, Lady Rainsworth helps Oz and Gilbert escape and they make their way through Pandora to find an exit. This is where Oscar Vessalius shows up and after a confrontation where it’s revealed how Oscar still viewed Oz as his family?

Jack shows up through possessing Oz’s body (technically his) and tries to kill Oscar but Oz stops him and they’re able to overcome this situation when Oscar says all he wants for Oz is for him to be happy. This helps Oz take control and regain his sense of self, and Oscar takes them to what is called a ‘Gate’ which can only be opened by those of the four dukedoms. It will help them escape Pandora and those who wish to follow them, but as they are leaving? ‘Echo’ shows up and stabs Oscar but he tells them to go, shutting the gate after them.

Shortly after this, they recoup at Lutwidge Academy before using secret passages so they can go after Glen Baskerville to try and stop him from re-writing the past and erasing Lacie’s existence. Alice has returned to Oz’s side now as well, and the three head to the Sablier of the past to stop Glen. Before they reach the gate where Glen went, they get separated and Oz runs into Zwei/Echo, stopping her from killing his sister.

Following this moment, Oz’s ‘father’ Zai Vessalius soon shows up and they have a rough talk about Jack Vessalius’ motives and Oz’s place (both in the family and as a individual). It’s painful for Oz to experience this but he eventually is able to accept that he can’t please his father and knows his place now, even if it hurts. He can’t convince the man otherwise, and takes Ada (his sister) with him to reunite with Gilbert and Alice once again.

Once they are able to get back together, it’s about this time when they find a way to the gate. Sort of. On their search for this gate to the past, it’s Xerxes Break who manages to extend a hand and pulls them through. He sends them off through the gate, and it’s then that they realize that they won’t see Break again after this, but they can’t waste time.

They head through to the past and with Alice’s help, they find the right point where Glen is and track him down while leaving Ada on her own for the time being. Assuring them she’s fine. Oz and Gil soon come across Vincent (Gil’s brother) and Glen, where an ensuing battle begins between Oz and Glen and eventually has Alice stepping in to stop Glen from killing Oz.

A short time after Vincent and Gil have a moment between themselves, Zwei/Echo shows up looking a bit rough around the edges which is around the time he will be pulled into Karteria.

Personality answers:

Who in your character's canon influenced the most growth in your character? What do they think about this character?

It’s hard to narrow it down but the one that stands out the most is Oscar Vessalius.

His Uncle.

This man endured hardships, had to face some serious realities and when faced with who and what Oz was? It didn’t really change his thoughts on Oz. He’s always supported him and encouraged him throughout his years growing up. His words are strong and hold a LOT of meaning, and when the time came where Oz thought Jack was going to use him to kill his Uncle?

He took over enough to stop him and it was Oscar who told him that all he wants for Oz is for him to be happy, and that was a big turning point for Oz. He was able to wrest his control back of his body once again.

This man was so important to him that he went to lengths like sneaking into his uncle’s room when he was little so he could steal the man’s camera so he didn’t get rid of it. He almost got hurt doing this, but it meant so much that he had to do it. His Uncle was more of a father figure than his ‘actual’ father was, and without his influence helping push not just Oz forwards but even Gilbert as well?

Everything very well would have turned out MUCH differently.

So when this man essentially sacrificed himself to ensure Oz, Gilbert and Alice’s safety? He was devastated and initially wanted to go back, stubbornly believing Oscar was alive, but knowing deep down what the truth was. It’s because of WHO and what Oscar was to him that helped him move forwards.

Explain which event in canon is most pivotal to your character's development, and who they are today.

There’s many one could choose from, but around Chapter 73/74 are the highest contenders as Jack Vessalius reveals to Oz who he really is and tries to convince him that everything he ever had was fake. It floors Oz on a HUGE level and to add insult to injury, Glen Baskerville has Gilbert shoot him and it has him extremely depressed and morose.

Believing his life wasn’t worth anything at all.

He could have just let himself be miserable and fall deeper into that abyssal pit of despair, but it’s through the efforts of Gilbert, Echo and his Uncle Oscar (to name a few) that help him understand that it’s okay that he doesn’t have to be ‘real’ to matter in the world and that people accept him even if he isn’t really human. What Jack told him ends up being the one thing that makes him stronger as a person in the end, able to completely come to terms with who and what he actually is and that what he has isn’t fake at all.

If he hadn’t been told this truth, it’s highly likely he never would have completely managed to gain a much better sense of self in the end.

What does your character think about physical appearances? Are they the sort to meticulously primp themselves, or could they not care less?

Yes… and no.

For Oz it depends on the circumstances. If he’s trying to impress someone, he’s self conscious about his cowlick and tries to flatten it (to no avail) and tries to dress nicely where he has to. Otherwise? He has no problems in doing things like crossdressing (again, if he HAS to) and going undercover while adapting his look.

By any means, he is NOT a vain person and most of the time he doesn’t entirely care what he looks like. He dresses pretty casual most of the time and when it comes to other people?

Oz has no problems commenting on others’ appearances generally but usually it’s meant in jest or teasing. When he first met Sharon Rainsworth? He couldn’t help but think how cute and pretty she was, but was also enamored when he found out her true nature as well. That said, he’s quick to pick up on visual things about others and going forwards from this point on?

If he has anything that separates him from looking like Jack Vessalius, he wouldn’t complain any.

What is your character's biggest ambition at their current canon point? To what lengths would they go to see it to fruition?

It’s a relatively easy answer as Oz desires to stop Glen Baskerville from altering the past and killing Lacie. Such a thing would make it so he didn’t exist in the future and everything happening now wouldn’t have occurred.

To achieve this, him, Gil and Alice have traveled to Sablier, lost two members of his family and had the help of many other dukes. Such as Duke Barma and Duchess Rainsworth as the most notable ones. It is slightly selfish but yet he also doesn’t want his friend Leo (who’s body Glen Baskerville has taken over currently) to have to endure such a hardship and lose even more than he already has

He wants to actually STOP Glen. Not kill him. He refuses to.

This makes him fight harder than ever, because the fate of their world and their past rests with him, Gil and Alice stopping Glen properly. He wants to go back to that peaceful time where they can have a tea party again, and that can’t be done until they fully achieve their goal.. And that may even mean having to ask for help from the Intention of the Abyss (which is essentially the core of the Abyss itself) to do so.

It’s a risky mission/goal but Oz knows they can’t stop. No matter what it takes. Fighting his friend, traveling through time.. Reliving history. It’s all to save the world before it crumbles.

Samples: Here & Here
Player Goals:

He’s fun to play in a game and I want to explore more with his real identity. To meet more people who may know what it’s like to have gone through even something remotely similar. I want him to have to adapt to the troubles of this world but also make more friends while processing all his trauma of what he’s recently endured back home.

Plus it’s fun to lean into the whole rabbit aesthetic with the whole body horror thing and I think it will be fun to explore all of that.
